As of now, this book has 41 reviews, all 5 star. I hate to mess with perfection, but I just finished the book, and while I liked it, I can't really say I loved it. There were so many characters introduced that seemed to have no reason to be there other than to underline the theme that there were so many people wanting a piece of Ivy. But for the most part, she invited them in, so it was pretty difficult to feel sorry for her. But the thing I did like was that it did tie up the frustrating Father Leary craziness quite tidily. I did love the series as a whole, this just wasn't my favorite of the four books.I don't know if there will be another Ivy Rose book, because this one ended quite nicely, and could be a good stopping place. But I love her and would welcome her back into my life if there is another book. It would be interesting to see what happens to our intrepid heroine and her family as the world slides into the great depression.This series was by far the best one I have found for quite some time. Characters you could really care about. History that was accurate. Very few editing errors. Very interesting story lines. A charming romance. I read the four books as though they were one long book. Whether you do that or not, do read them in order. Well, I have finished the last book in the series and feel sad to see it go. I feel like I have lost some of my family. I loved all the stories. Especially how everyone in THE LANE stood together and helped one another partially Ivy and then Gem with her. This story opened up to me the terrible hardship suffered by many in those times.Unlike now in 2021 when there is still hardship in western countries, these people lived in the squaller of being crowded in two rooms, amid human smells.. I cant imagine the depression of those circumstances. I have come to appreciate more, the running water (I grew up with one cold water tap in the house). The ease of going to a supermarket and buying my needs. Yes I have always been fugal and now I appreciate being like that much more, and the sense of it.I would love to read more of this authors work, and although the books are not as expensive and some, on a low aged pension I cannot afford to be paying the cost of them. I will however, watch out for those of a lowered cost. .
